THE PREJNA-PARAMITA-HRIDAYA SUTRA

 

(The Sutra of the kernel of Transcendental wisdom)

 

When the Boddhisattva Avalokitesvara was engaged in the practice of the deep prajnapar-amita, he perceived the emptiness of all the five skandhas, and was delivered from all Suffering and misery.

 

“Sariputra! form is not different from emptiness, nor is emptiness different from form. From is emptiness, emptiness is form. The same can be said of sensation, thought, confection, and consciousness.”

 

“ Sariputra, when things are seen in the light of emptiness, they are neither born nor extinguished, they are neither tainted nor immaculate, they neither increase nor decrease. Therefore, in the realm of emptiness there is no form, no sensation, no thought, no confection, no consciousness :

 

No eye, ear, nose, tongue, body, mind:, no form, sound, odor, taste, objects. There is no Dhatu of vision, nor of consciousness. There is no ignorance, nor extinction of ignorance. There is no old age and death, nor extinction of old age and death. There is no suffering, no accumulation of suffering, no annihilation of suffering, no path leading to the annihilation of suffering.  There is no knowledge and no attainment, as there is nothing to be attained.”

 

“ The mind of the Bodhisattva who relies on the prajnaparamita is free of all obstacles: and because there are no obstacles in his mind , he has no fear, and, going beyond all perverted views, reaches final Nivana. All the Buddhas of the past, present, and future, depending on the prajnaparamita, attain to the highest perfect enlightenment.”

 

 “Hence, we know that the prajnaparamita is the great Mantram, the Mantram of great wisdom, the highest Mantram, the peerless Mantram, which can truly and effective heal all suffering.”

 

 Therefore, he recited the Mantram of the prajnaparamita. As follows.

 

Gate, gate, paragate, bodhisvaha!

( Oh! Bodhi, gone, gone, gone to the other shore, landed at the other shore, Hail!)
